Clubbing

Friday 1st May

I was up a bit early today so I did some work on the hockey club site. This took me to a bit after 7 at which time I thought I'd better get moving. I was planning to go to the opening of the new golf shop at 8. After breakfast, shower etc.

I arrived there about 7-45 and there was a huge queue. I got on the end and started chatting with the guy behind me, Daniel. He thought we were more than 100 back in the queue and was as surprised as I was that there was such a big queue. The brochure said the first 100 would get $25 vouchers and the next 250 free rounds at a Canongate course, but only for Mon to Thur. Daniel made a comment about only being able to get 1 round so I suggested that I would be happy to swap a voucher for a round for the $25, if we missed out and he was eager to accept so he could take his friend with him.

As it turned out they still had the $25 vouchers available but I took the free round anyway so he could have 2. No skin of my nose to be helpful and because we were both short of change he finished up giving me $27. I grabbed a putter and headed to the check out counter. The 15% voucher reduced it to $144, tax put it up to $153 so it cost me net around $126 (under A$180). That seems a very good price for an Odyssey putter. This particular one has been compared with a Klingon starship.

I am looking fiorwrad to trying it for real tomorrow. I am being joined by Brandon junior (the main engineer is also called Brandon) who was a scratch golfer at one time.

When I arrived at the office, I found they guy whose desk I'd been using was back, so I moved to the only unoccupied one left, since Louis is away. There are about 10 engineers in the office at the moment and all other cubicles are occupied. Work today was mostly finishing off the work from yesterday by tidying up the edit screens, hiding fields not required for different scenarios and, at the end of the day, adding a number of automatic plots to display the new data. There were 7 of us at lunch today at an Italian restaurant. I had Lasagne.

I left work about 6 and most of the people had left well before then. One of the girls had given an open invite to join her and a few friends at Wolfies bar for Crawfish and beer. The GPS helped me find it and Brandon (junior) was just leaving as I got there. Shonda and her 2 girlfriends and Chris, one of the engineers, were still there and already several beers ahead. I had a couple of Dos Equis, which is Spanish for 2 X. I told them that in Australia we had a beer that was twice as good.

It turns out one of Shonda's friends was having a birthday get together and they had reserved a room there. I had a pound of crawfish while the 2 girls had 4 lbs between them and then they ordered another 4. They were quite tasty but there is even more waste per pound than crabs. These were also heavily peppered so your mouth started to burn. I think it's a ploy to get you to buy more beer. I was still a bit peckish so I had a half serve of chicken nachos. I decide this was enough and headed home. There were 15 to 20 people there by then and the majority of them were smoking.
